New (Year)ning

NEW YEAR (NING)

They were all celebrating a New Year’s eve

The old year was ready to leave

Some were dancing gaudily at the club

While others were busying themselves at the pub

After gulping down a few pegs

He could not carry himself on his legs

Still he managed to make his way out of the bar

But he didn’t manage to reach far

Before a drunken driver with his speeding car

Ran over him, leaving the doors of his body ajar

He lay there in the midst of the road cared by nobody

Instead of blood, wine flowed out of his body

He opened his eyes to find himself in a hospital’s emergency

He must have been there because of a good samaritan’s decency

The doctors informed him that his legs had to be amputated

This incident left him not only physically but also mentally disabled

A small mistake of his caused a deadly accident

This forever he will repent

Celebrate and welcome the New Year with an embrace

Enjoy yourself, but do it with a grace

Promise yourself and take a firm stand

That, when New Year arrives you won’t be in a trance.

“Drive yourself not to drink,

If you drink, do not drive.”
